What's In A Name?
Why do I call my company Traumantic Studios?

When my son Bret was 5 years old he was watching a science fiction movie. A giant spaceship suddenly appeared on the screen and he rushed out to the living room to tell my wife and I about it.

In his excitement and haste to describe what he saw as either "tremendous" or "gigantic", those words were squashed together and the word "traumantic" popped out.

(NOTE: Credit to George Lucas here. The word Traumantic was directly attributable to the opening scenes of Star Wars when Princess Leia's ship is being chased by the giant Star Destroyer. When that ship came on screen, the word "traumantic" formed in the head of my son. Pretty cool to have your company name be a Star Wars reference I think!)

It was silly at the time, but it stuck with me. When I went to start my own company a year or two later, Traumantic was the perfect fit.

Traumantic Software was founded in Sherman Oaks, California in 1989 as a consulting company supporting individual and networked PCs.

We relaunched as Traumantic Studios in January of 2006 focused on photography and videography. We hope that our products and services will give you a "traumantic" experience every time, and keep you coming back in the future.

Philosophy of Photography
Shoot anything! My simple philosophy of photography.

This is hopefully reflected in the photos on my various sites. I like to show a wide variety of shots, warts and all, to give you a better idea of my range of styles and skill level.

I'm often asked why I keep such a broad range of my older photos here. I think a good photo is always good, and showing growth is not a bad thing.

I see no good reason to show only my latest work. I keep a lot of my older shots on this site so people can see progression in my work. I want to see where I have been and be able to appreciate where I am now.

I am open to change and challenge. I want to try things I have not done before when those opportunities arise, but I will also continue to do things I have done before and improve on them where I can.

I love taking pictures and I will take any opportunity I feel will benefit me and result in great pictures for the client.

I hope you will consider using Traumantic Studios for your photographic needs.

Client Testimonials

I am usually the one behind the camera, but when my girlfriend asked me to do a photoshoot with her, I was forced to find someone to take my spot. I knew about Dave from his coverage of the Annual Diabetes Walk. After seeing what he did there, I figured he would be able to get the shots we were...
